US citizens can get a visa on arrival at Zimbabwean airports and land borders, or apply for an eVisa in advance; a single-entry visa costs $30 and the KAZA UniVisa covering Zimbabwe and Zambia costs $50.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months with at least one blank page
  • Payment in USD cash (or card at some ports) for the visa fee
  • Proof of onward/return travel
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Yellow fever certificate only if arriving from an endemic country
  • Travel insurance recommended

Visa types

  • Single-entry visa: valid for one entry, stay up to 90 days, $30
  • Double-entry visa: allows one re-entry (e.g., a day trip to Zambia or Botswana), $45
  • KAZA UniVisa: covers unlimited entries between Zimbabwe and Zambia plus a day trip to Botswana's Chobe area, $50, valid 30 days

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Harare, Victoria Falls, and Bulawayo international airports, and major land borders including Victoria Falls Bridge and Kazungula
  • Fill out the arrival visa form, present passport and fee, and receive the visa and entry stamp at the immigration counter
  • Queues can be long at peak times, especially at the Victoria Falls border; exact USD cash speeds up the process
  • An eVisa can also be obtained in advance at evisa.gov.zw to skip the on-arrival queue, typically approved within 48-72 hours

  • Single-entry: $30 USD; Double-entry: $45 USD; KAZA UniVisa: $50 USD
  • On-arrival processing takes 15-30 minutes depending on queue length
  • eVisa applications are processed in 2-4 business days when submitted ahead of travel
  • No separate service fee for on-arrival visas; eVisa carries a small online processing fee

Tips for United States travelers

  • Apply for the eVisa a week before travel if you want to avoid arrival queues, especially at Victoria Falls
  • Choose the KAZA UniVisa if you plan to cross into Zambia or do a Chobe National Park day trip from Zimbabwe
  • Carry exact change in USD, as border posts sometimes run short on change
  • Common delay reasons: unclear accommodation details, insufficient funds shown, or incomplete eVisa photo uploads
  • Visa extensions can be arranged at immigration offices in Harare or Bulawayo before the stamped period expires
