Tips for United States travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: aim to apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel; apply earlier if traveling during peak holiday periods.
  • Common rejection reasons for US applicants: incomplete or inconsistent information, passport validity less than 6 months on entry, insufficient funds, mismatched travel details, poor quality photo.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: online e-Visa applications are processed directly via the Mauritius e-Visa system; no separate VFS/BLS handling for the e-Visa.
  • Travel advisories: check the U.S. State Department travel advisory for Mauritius before departure; ensure compliance with any health or vaccination advisories.
  • Extensions inside Mauritius: if a longer stay is needed, extensions may be possible through the Mauritius Passport and Immigration Office before your current visa expires; approval is not guaranteed.
