U.S. citizens can get a Visa on Arrival at Jordanian airports and land borders for JOD 40 (about $56) - or skip the fee entirely with a Jordan Pass purchased online before arrival if staying at least 3 nights.

What you need

  • Passport valid 6+ months with at least 1 blank page
  • No advance photo needed for the airport VOA
  • If using Jordan Pass, have the digital pass ready along with your passport
  • Proof of accommodation may be requested
  • Standard photo/fingerprint capture used at some airports
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Single-entry Visa on Arrival - JOD 40, valid for a stay of up to 30 days, extendable
  • Jordan Pass - combines the entry visa fee waiver with admission to 40+ attractions including Petra; valid if you stay a minimum of 3 nights and purchase before arrival
  • Multiple-entry visas available in advance through the Jordanian embassy for frequent travelers, not part of the standard VOA

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Queen Alia International Airport (Amman), King Hussein International Airport (Aqaba), and most land and sea border crossings except the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge crossing from Israel, which requires a pre-arranged visa
  • Pay JOD 40 in cash (Jordanian Dinar preferred; some counters accept USD or card) or present your pre-purchased Jordan Pass QR code for a fee waiver
  • Processing at the counter typically takes 5-10 minutes

Tips for United States travelers

  • Buy the Jordan Pass online before departure if you plan to visit Petra and stay at least 3 nights - it waives the visa fee and saves on attraction entry costs
  • Bring Jordanian Dinar cash as a backup in case card payment isn't available at your port of entry
  • The Allenby/King Hussein Bridge land crossing from Israel does not offer visa-on-arrival - arrange your Jordan visa in advance if entering this way
  • Extensions beyond 30 days can be done at a local police station (Directorate of Residency and Borders) without leaving the country
