Iraq Visa for United States Citizens 2026

U.S. citizens can get an Iraq e-Visa online at evisa.gov.iq - single-entry, 60-day validity allowing a 30-day stay; fee is about $75-77, with approval usually within 3-5 business days.

What you need

  • Passport valid 6+ months with at least 1 blank page
  • Digital passport-style photo and scanned passport bio page uploaded to the online form
  • A hotel booking or address of stay in Iraq
  • No interview or biometrics required for the e-Visa, though fingerprints are taken on arrival
  • Travel health insurance recommended
  • Note: the federal Iraq e-Visa is separate from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq's visa-on-arrival, which only covers the Erbil/Sulaymaniyah entry points

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa - 60-day validity, single entry, 30-day maximum stay, approx $75-77
  • Business e-Visa - similar validity, requires an invitation letter from an Iraqi company, approx $75-77
  • Kurdistan Region VOA - separate from the federal e-Visa, issued on arrival at Erbil/Sulaymaniyah airports for stays up to 30-60 days, not valid for onward travel into federal Iraq

How to apply online

  • Apply at evisa.gov.iq, create an account, complete the form with trip details, upload your photo and passport scan, and pay online by credit card
  • Processing typically takes 3-5 business days, though it can extend to 2 weeks during high demand
  • Once approved, print the e-Visa PDF to present at passport control along with your passport

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist/Business e-Visa fee is approximately $75-77 USD, paid online during application
  • No separate service fee since the portal is official and direct
  • Standard processing is 3-5 business days
  • No guaranteed express service, so apply at least 2 weeks ahead

Tips for United States travelers

  • Apply well in advance (2-3 weeks) since Iraqi e-Visa processing times can be inconsistent
  • Confirm whether your destination is in federal Iraq (Baghdad, Basra, etc. - needs the federal e-Visa) or the Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah - separate VOA)
  • Register your travel with the US Department of State given the current security environment
  • Extensions are handled through the Directorate of Residency in Baghdad and generally require sponsorship
