Visa on Arrival

U.S. citizens can get a Visa on Arrival for Indonesia - pay IDR 500,000 (about $32) on arrival or apply online in advance at molina.imigrasi.go.id; valid 30 days and extendable once.

What you need

  • Passport valid 6+ months beyond entry with at least 1 blank page
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • For the airport VOA counter, your photo is captured on the spot; the online e-VOA requires a digital passport photo upload
  • Accommodation details (hotel booking or address) may be requested
  • Fingerprint and photo capture at the immigration counter
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival / e-VOA - 30 days single entry, extendable once for 30 more days, approx IDR 500,000 (about $32)
  • B211A Visitor Visa - 60 days, extendable up to 180 days total, for longer tourism or business stays, approx $50-150 depending on service used
  • Social-Cultural Visa - for longer non-tourist visits, requires a local sponsor

Visa on arrival

  • Available at major international airports (Soekarno-Hatta Jakarta, Ngurah Rai Bali, and others) and select seaports
  • Pay IDR 500,000 in cash or by card at the VOA counter, or prepay online 2 days to 1 year ahead via molina.imigrasi.go.id for a QR code that lets you skip the counter queue
  • Processing at the airport counter typically takes 5-15 minutes
  • Keep your stamped/printed VOA receipt - it's needed for extension or exit

Fees & processing time

  • IDR 500,000 (approx $32 USD) for the initial 30-day VOA
  • One extension of 30 days costs the same amount and must be requested at a local immigration office before the first 30 days expire
  • The online pre-arrival e-VOA has no separate service fee beyond the standard IDR 500,000
  • Processing is same-day both online and on arrival

Tips for United States travelers

  • Apply for the e-VOA online a few days before departure to avoid airport queues, especially in Bali during peak season
  • Extensions must be filed in person at an Indonesian immigration office (kantor imigrasi) a few days before the visa expires - overstay fines run IDR 1,000,000 per day
  • The VOA cannot be converted to a different visa type from inside Indonesia
  • Carry a printed copy of your return/onward ticket, as immigration officers sometimes ask to see it
