United States citizens traveling to Guinea must obtain an e-visa; apply online via the official Guinea e-visa portal; fees start around USD 50 and processing typically 3–5 working days.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry, and have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: No Guinea-specific form beyond the online e-visa application; no DS-160 or equivalent required.
  • Financial proof: Financial proof is not routinely uploaded for the online e-visa, but carry bank statements or proof of funds; you may be asked to demonstrate sufficient funds by border control if requested.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation for the stay (hotel booking or invitation letter) and a return or onward ticket.
  • Photo spec: Recent passport-style photo (35x45 mm) with a plain white background; ensure clear facial features and no hats or sunglasses unless required for medical reasons.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics are not required for the online e-visa application; biometric data may be collected on arrival if requested by immigration.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory for the e-visa.

  • Tourist visa (e-visa): Official name Tourist e-visa; Validity up to 90 days from issue; Max stay up to 90 days per entry; Single-entry; Approximate fee around USD 50.
  • Business visa (e-visa): Official name Business e-visa; Validity up to 90 days from issue; Max stay up to 90 days per entry; Single-entry; Approximate fee around USD 70.
  • Student visa (e-visa): Official name Student e-visa; Validity equal to duration of study (generally up to 12 months, renewable); Multiple entries allowed where permitted; Approximate fee around USD 120.
  • Work visa (e-visa): Official name Work e-visa; Validity up to 12 months; Multiple entries allowed; Approximate fee around USD 150.

How to apply online

  • Portal URL: Use the official Guinea e-visa portal published by the Guinea government (verify via Guinea embassy or consulate websites before applying).
  • Steps: Create an account on the e-visa portal → complete the online application form with passport data and travel details → upload required documents (passport data page scan, photo, hotel or invitation letter, return ticket) → pay the visa fee online → submit form.
  • Fees (local currency and USD): Visa fee is category dependent (see Fees & processing time section); payments are online in USD and/or local currency equivalent with a separate platform service charge.
  • Processing time: Standard processing is typically 3–5 working days; expedited options may be offered for an additional fee (1–2 days in some cases).
  • How approval arrives: You will receive an email with your e-visa document; print the e-visa and carry it to Guinea to present on arrival.

  • Standard processing time: 3–5 working days.
  • Express/priority option: Expedited processing sometimes available for an additional fee (approx. USD 20–40) with shorter timelines.

Tips for United States travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: At least 7–14 days before travel; apply earlier if you need expedited processing.
  • Common rejection reasons for United States applicants specifically: Incomplete or incorrect application data (name spelling, passport number), passport validity less than required, missing or inconsistent travel plans, insufficient or missing accommodation proof, or lack of funds evidence if requested.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: This is an online e-visa process; there is no separate VFS/BLS submission for Guinea e-visas; submit directly via the official portal and carry the e-visa printout.
  • Travel advisories: Check the latest travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State for Guinea and verify any health or entry restrictions on the Guinea government site before travel.
