Cameroon Visa for United States Citizens 2026

US citizens must obtain a Cameroon e-visa before travel; apply online at https://www.prc.cm/; processing typically 3–5 working days; routes and fees vary by visa category.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond intended date of entry and have at least 2 blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: Use the online Cameroon e-visa application on the official portal at https://www.prc.cm/. There is no DS-160 or VAF1A for this process.
  • Financial proof: No published minimum bank balance is required for the e-visa application. You should have access to funds sufficient to cover your stay; you may be asked to provide bank statements if requested by immigration authorities.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) and a return/onward flight itinerary may be requested during processing or at border control.
  • Photo specifications: One recent color passport-style photo meeting the e-visa portal requirements. Photo size commonly requested is 35x45 mm with a white background; upload as JPEG/PNG per portal specs.
  • Biometrics: Biometric data may be collected as part of the online submission or at a designated visa center; follow instructions in the portal after you submit.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for visa approval, but having travel medical insurance is strongly recommended.

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: Official name Tourist Visa; Validity up to 3 months from issue; Maximum stay 30 days per visit; Entry type: single-entry; Approximate fee: USD 50–100 (about 35,000–70,000 XAF).
  • Business visa: Official name Business Visa; Validity up to 6 months; Maximum stay per visit 30 days; Entry type: single or multiple-entry depending on approval; Approximate fee: USD 90–200 (about 60,000–140,000 XAF).
  • Student visa: Official name Student Visa; Validity up to 12 months (renewable as per course terms); Entry type: multiple-entry; Approximate fee: USD 110–160 (about 75,000–110,000 XAF).
  • Work visa: Official name Work Visa; Validity up to 12 months (renewable); Entry type: multiple-entry; Approximate fee: USD 150–250 (about 105,000–175,000 XAF).

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: portal URL https://www.prc.cm/; Steps: 1) Create an account and log in. 2) Complete the online application form with personal, travel and passport details. 3) Upload requested documents: passport bio-data page, passport-sized photo, proof of accommodation or invitation letter, return/onward flight details, and Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if required. 4) Pay the visa fee in XAF and USD; you can use a major credit/debit card. 5) Submit and wait for processing; you will be notified by the portal or by email. 6) Once approved, print the e-visa confirmation and carry to Cameroon; border officers will validate it on arrival.
  • Processing time: Standard processing is 3–5 working days; Express/priority processing may be offered for an additional fee (typically faster). Approval delivery: by portal notification and email; you may print the e-visa confirmation.

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist visa: 35,000–70,000 XAF (USD 50–100); processing 3–5 working days; express option extra 20–60 USD.
  • Business visa: 60,000–140,000 XAF (USD 90–200); processing 3–5 working days; express option extra 25–80 USD.
  • Student visa: 75,000–110,000 XAF (USD 110–160); processing 3–5 working days; express option extra 25–60 USD.
  • Work visa: 105,000–175,000 XAF (USD 150–250); processing 3–5 working days; express option extra 30–90 USD.
  • VFS/BLS service fees: Not applicable for direct e-visa via the PRC portal; if you use a third-party agent, fees vary and are paid to the agent.
  • Total cost estimate: add visa fee plus any service charges; example (tourist): USD 60–110; XAF 42,000–75,000.
  • Note on currencies: XAF refers to Cameroonian CFA franc; USD estimates are approximate and subject to exchange rate fluctuations.

Tips for United States travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Start the e-visa application at least 2–3 weeks before your planned departure; allow extra time for processing and potential document requests.
  • Common rejection reasons for United States applicants specifically: Incomplete or inconsistent travel details; passport validity less than 6 months; insufficient funds or lack of accommodation/invitation documentation; missing Yellow Fever certificate when required; blurry or mismatched photos; failing to submit all required documents.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: The Cameroon e-visa is processed online via the official PRC portal; there is no standard VFS/BLS process for the e-visa. If you choose to use a visa center or agent, expect extra service fees.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the U.S. Department of State travel advisories for Cameroon and verify entry requirements with the Cameroon embassy/consulate before travel; ensure you have current health and safety information.
  • Extension options inside Cameroon: Extensions may be possible through Cameroon immigration authorities; apply before your visa expiry and be prepared for additional documentation; approval is not guaranteed.
