What you need

  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address of host)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (approx. USD 75/day is commonly referenced by immigration officers)
  • No visa application, photo, or biometric submission required for entry
  • Completed Belize arrival/customs card (given on the plane or at the border)

Visa types

  • No visa required for tourism or short business visits
  • Entry is granted as a visa-free tourist stamp; an actual visa is only needed for work, study, or residency applications, handled through Belize Immigration or the nearest Belizean consulate

Entry conditions

  • Immigration typically grants an initial stamp of 30 days on arrival
  • The stay can be extended monthly at any Belize Immigration office (main office in Belmopan or regional offices in Belize City, San Pedro, etc.) up to a cumulative maximum of 180 days per visit

  • Bring exact cash (BZD or USD) for extension fees, as card payment is not always available at smaller offices
  • Keep every extension stamp/receipt in your passport; you'll need the full chain when leaving the country
  • Common issue for US travelers: not realizing the 30-day stamp isn't automatically renewed — mark your calendar
  • If you're island-based (e.g., San Pedro or Caye Caulker), you can get extensions locally without traveling to Belmopan
