Belarus Visa for United States Citizens 2026

US citizens can apply for a Belarus electronic visa (e-Visa) online for tourism or business; fee USD 60, processing 3–5 business days, single-entry, stay up to 30 days, valid for 90 days from issue.

What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of planned entry into Belarus; ensure you have at least 1 blank page in your passport, though the e-Visa is issued electronically.
  • Specific forms: there is no DS-160 or equivalent paper form for Belarus e-Visa; complete the online e-Visa application on the official portal (https://www.mfa.gov.by/en/visa/) and upload required documents as prompted.
  • Financial proof: there is no fixed bank statement amount mandated by the Belarusian authorities for the e-Visa; you should have funds sufficient to cover your stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: provide proof of accommodation for your entire stay (hotel booking or host invitation) and a return or onward travel ticket.
  • Photo spec: upload a recent color photo 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm) in JPG/JPEG format, 300 dpi, white background, head centered, no sunglasses; photograph should match the one on your passport.
  • Biometrics: no in-person biometrics appointment is required for the e-Visa; the visa is issued electronically and printed by you.
  • Travel health insurance: travel medical insurance valid in Belarus for the duration of your stay with minimum coverage of EUR 10,000.

  • Private visit e-Visa — Official name: Private visit (e-Visa); Availability: not offered via e-Visa (not available online); requires embassy visa (N/A).
  • Student e-Visa — Official name: Student (e-Visa); Availability: not offered via e-Visa (not available online); requires embassy visa (N/A).
  • Work e-Visa — Official name: Work (e-Visa); Availability: not offered via e-Visa (not available online); requires embassy visa (N/A).
  • Note: At present, the Belarus e-Visa portal lists Tourist and Business categories as available online; other categories require traditional embassy processing.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: go to the official portal at https://www.mfa.gov.by/en/visa/ and choose the e-Visa option; create an account or sign in, then start a new application.
  • Steps: enter personal details, passport data page, travel dates, and border entry point; upload required documents (passport data page scan, photo, hotel/invitation proof, travel itinerary, health insurance).
  • Payment: pay the visa fee of USD 60 using the portal’s payment module (cards accepted); the portal will display the exact amount in USD and the local currency equivalent at the time of payment (BYN 150 as a current illustrative equivalent).
  • Submission and processing: submit the application; standard processing time is 3–5 business days; you will receive the e-Visa by email or it will be available in your online account.
  • After approval: print the e-Visa and travel with it along with your passport; you may enter Belarus through designated border checkpoints listed on the portal.
  • Arrival: border officers verify the e-Visa electronic record; no physical sticker visa is required, but carry a printed copy of the e-Visa.

  • Visa fee: USD 60; local currency equivalent (BYN) shown on the portal at payment time (illustrative BYN 150).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: not applicable for the Belarus e-Visa when applying directly via the official portal.

Tips for United States travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: start the application at least 5–7 business days before your planned travel date; allow extra time for possible processing delays, peak season surges, or additional document checks.
  • Common rejection reasons for U.S. applicants: passport validity issues (not meeting the 6-month requirement), incorrect or mismatched personal information, missing or inconsistent hotel confirmation/invitation details, insufficient travel insurance coverage, or errors in travel dates or entry point.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: for the Belarus e-Visa you should apply directly via the official portal; there is no separate VFS/BLS submission for e-Visas; embassies handle traditional visas if you are not eligible for the e-Visa.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Belarus and current bilateral context; stay updated on any changes to visa policy or border controls; verify whether the U.S. embassy in Belarus is operational and able to provide consular assistance if needed.
  • Extension options inside Belarus: Belarus e-Visas generally cannot be extended from within Belarus; if you need a longer stay, plan to exit and re-apply for a new e-Visa before travel or apply for a different visa type via the official channels.
