Tips for United States travelers

  • When to apply: Apply at least 3–5 days before travel; allow up to 3 working days for standard processing; plan 1–2 weeks ahead to account for busy periods or holidays.
  • Common rejection reasons (US applicants): Passport validity shorter than 6 months or insufficient validity; data mismatch or inconsistencies between the passport and visa application; uploading blurry or incorrect documents; selecting the wrong visa type (Tourist vs Business); incomplete application or missing payment.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: The Azerbaijan e-visa is issued online via evisa.gov.az; there is no VFS/BLS intermediary for this visa; for other visa categories or in-country matters, refer to the Azerbaijan MFA (https://www.mfa.gov.az/).
  • Travel advisories/bilateral notes: Check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Azerbaijan before travel and review Azerbaijan MFA updates on https://www.mfa.gov.az/.
  • Extension options: E-visas are limited to the stay specified (30 days). Extensions while in Azerbaijan are typically not possible under an e-visa; to stay longer you must leave and re-enter or obtain a different visa type through the embassy/migration service.
