Guide last updated October 21, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond travel dates, with at least 2 blank pages.
  • Completed visa application form
  • Invitation letter from a resident of Syria, or proof of booked accommodation
  • Financial proof such as a bank statement showing sufficient funds
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Two passport-size photos (35mm x 45mm, white background)
  • Biometrics are not routinely collected for this route; some embassy appointments may request fingerprints on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended given limited medical infrastructure in many areas

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, valid 3 months from issue, max stay 15 days, extendable locally, fee around USD 50-60
  • Business visa: single or multiple entry, valid up to 6 months, max stay 30 days per entry, requires company invitation letter, fee around USD 75
  • Transit visa: valid 72 hours, issued at discretion of immigration, fee around USD 30

How to apply online

  • Apply through the Syrian embassy's affiliated e-visa portal or submit directly at the Embassy of Syria in Islamabad, as online processing can be unreliable.
  • Create an account and complete the online form
  • Upload passport scan, photo, and invitation letter
  • Pay the fee in local currency equivalent (around PKR 14,000) or USD
  • Processing typically takes 7-21 days depending on security clearance
  • Approval is sent as an e-visa letter to print and present on arrival, or collected as a sticker visa from the embassy

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: approximately USD 50-75 depending on visa type
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee; applications go directly through the embassy or online portal
  • Total estimated cost: USD 50-80 including incidental bank transfer charges
  • Standard processing time: 7-21 working days
  • No official express service is offered; urgent cases may be expedited at embassy discretion

Tips for Pakistan travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before travel given variable processing times
  • Common rejection reasons include missing invitation letters and insufficient proof of funds
  • Direct embassy application in Islamabad is generally more reliable than the online portal
  • Check current Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel advisories before booking, as parts of Syria remain high-risk
  • Extensions beyond the initial stay can be arranged at the Immigration and Passports Department in Damascus
