Visa types

  • L Visa (Tourist): single or multiple entry, valid typically for 30-90 days per entry within a validity of up to 1-2 years for Pakistani applicants given bilateral relations, fee approximately USD 30-50
  • M Visa (Business): single, double, or multiple entry, similar validity structure, fee approximately USD 30-50
  • Z Visa (Work): for employment in China, requires a work permit notification letter, fee approximately USD 50-90
  • X Visa (Student): for study programs, fee approximately USD 50-90
  • Multiple-entry long-validity visas (1-2 years) are commonly available to Pakistani nationals with a good travel history, given close bilateral ties, at a higher fee around USD 100-140

How to apply

  • Apply in person at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Islamabad or Karachi, which processes applications on behalf of the Chinese Embassy/Consulate.
  • Complete the online application form via the CVASC portal and print the confirmation
  • Book an appointment at the CVASC
  • Submit the full document set, invitation letter (if applicable), and pay the visa fee plus service charge
  • Provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at the center
  • Track the application online; the passport with the visa sticker is collected in person or via courier

Fees & processing time

  • Standard visa fee: approximately USD 30-50 for most tourist/business categories (preferential rates often apply for Pakistani nationals given bilateral relations)
  • Multiple-entry long-validity visa fee: approximately USD 100-140
  • CVASC service fee: approximately PKR 3,000-5,000 additional
  • Standard processing time: 4 working days
  • Express service (2-3 working days) and rush service (next working day) are available for an additional fee

Tips for Pakistan travelers

  • Apply at least 2-3 weeks before travel, even though standard processing is fast, to accommodate appointment availability at the CVASC
  • Common rejection reasons: incomplete invitation letters for business/work visas, unclear itinerary, or photo not meeting the strict Chinese specifications
  • Pakistani nationals are often eligible for longer multi-entry visa validity given close bilateral relations; ask the CVASC about the best available category
  • Keep both a digital and printed copy of the invitation letter and hotel bookings for the application and for immigration checks on arrival
  • Extensions of stay inside China can be requested at the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) exit-entry office before the current visa or stay permit expires
