What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • Completed online e-Visa application form
  • Digital passport-style photo, white background
  • Scanned copy of passport bio page
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation in Ethiopia
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from an endemic country
  • Travel health insurance recommended
  • No biometrics required for the e-Visa; photo may be taken on arrival at Bole International Airport

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid for use within 90 days of issue, permits a stay of up to 30 or 90 days depending on the option chosen, fee approximately USD 52 (30-day) or USD 72 (90-day)
  • Business e-Visa: single entry, requires an invitation letter from an Ethiopian company, fee approximately USD 72
  • Transit e-Visa: for short layovers, lower fee around USD 30

How to apply online

  • Apply via the official portal at evisa.gov.et
  • Create an account, select the visa type (tourist 30-day or 90-day), and complete the application form
  • Upload your passport bio page scan and photo
  • Pay the fee online by credit or debit card in USD
  • Processing is usually completed within 1-3 business days
  • The approved e-Visa is emailed as a PDF; print it and present it with your passport on arrival
  • Immigration at Bole International Airport scans the e-Visa and stamps the passport
