Costa Rica Visa for Pakistan Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Pakistani citizens need a consular visa to enter Costa Rica, applied for at the nearest Costa Rican consulate or through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' online pre-approval system (Visa Restringida), with processing typically taking 2-4 weeks.

Guide last updated October 19, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Completed Costa Rica consular visa application form
  • Two recent passport-size photos
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation for the full stay
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months showing sufficient funds
  • Travel health insurance covering the trip
  • A criminal record / police clearance certificate, apostilled or legalized
  • Biometrics are typically collected at the consulate during the visa interview

Visa types

  • Tourist (Restricted) Visa: single entry, usually valid for a stay of up to 30-90 days
  • Business Visa: for meetings or short commercial activity, similar validity
  • Multiple-entry visa: issued to frequent travelers with a strong travel history, valid up to 1 year
  • Most Pakistani leisure travelers apply for the single-entry Tourist Restricted Visa.

How to apply

  • Since Pakistan has no resident Costa Rican consulate, apply through the nearest designated consulate or via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' online portal for visa pre-authorization
  • Submit the application form with photos, passport copy, and supporting documents
  • Pay the visa fee as instructed, usually by bank transfer or at the consulate
  • Attend an interview if required by the consulate
  • Once the pre-authorization or visa is approved, it is stamped in the passport or issued as a letter to present on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • Consular visa fee: approximately USD 50
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee, as applications go directly through the consulate or Ministry portal
  • Standard processing time: 2 to 4 weeks
  • There is no official express service

Tips for Pakistan travelers

  • Start the application at least 6-8 weeks before travel, since Pakistan-based applicants must route documents to a regional consulate
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient proof of funds and an unclear or inconsistent travel itinerary
  • Make sure your police clearance certificate is apostilled, as consulates frequently reject uncertified documents
  • Carry printed copies of your visa approval, hotel bookings, and return ticket for immigration checks on arrival in San Jose
  • Extensions can be requested through Costa Rica's Direccion General de Migracion y Extranjeria before the authorized stay expires
