Uganda Visa for China Citizens 2026

China citizens traveling to Uganda must apply for an Uganda e-Visa (Tourist, Business, or East Africa Tourist Visa) online at https://visas.immigration.go.ug/; typical visa fees start from USD 50 for Tourist e-Visa, USD 100 for East Africa Tourist Visa and USD 100 for Business e-Visa, with processing in 2–3 working days.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended entry date and have at least 1 blank page for stamping.
  • Specific forms: No DS-160 or other national forms are required for Uganda e-Visa; apply online via the official portal.
  • Financial proof: There is no explicit mandatory bank statement requirement for the e-Visa; have access to funds in case asked by border officials.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof is not strictly required but it is recommended to have hotel bookings and a return/onward travel plan ready.
  • Photo spec: Upload a recent color photo: 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm), white background, head and shoulders, neutral expression; file format JPG/JPEG, max 2 MB.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics are not collected in a separate appointment for the online e-Visa; biometric data will be collected at the port of entry by Ugandan immigration.
  • Travel health insurance: Not required, but recommended for international travel.
  • Yellow fever vaccination: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate may be requested for travellers depending on origin and routing; check latest guidance with Ugandan authorities and your travel health provider.

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa (official name: Uganda Tourist e-Visa): validity 90 days from issue; max stay 90 days per visit; entry: single; approximate fee USD 50 (about UGX 185,000, depending on exchange rate).
  • East Africa Tourist Visa (official name: East Africa Tourist Visa): validity 90 days; max stay 90 days per visit; multiple entries across participating East Africa Community countries; approximate fee USD 100 (about UGX 370,000, depending on exchange rate).
  • Business e-Visa (official name: Uganda Business e-Visa): validity 90 days; max stay 90 days per visit; entry: single; approximate fee USD 100 (about UGX 370,000, depending on exchange rate).

Application process

  • How to apply online: Go to https://visas.immigration.go.ug/ and create your applicant profile. Start a new application, select the visa type (Tourist, Business, or East Africa Tourist Visa), upload required documents (passport bio-page scan, passport-style photo, and any business invitation letter if applying for Business), fill personal and travel details, pay the visa fee online, and submit. You will receive a notification and the approved e-Visa document by email or via the portal; print the e-Visa and carry it to Uganda.
  • Documents to upload (example): passport bio-page scan (color), passport photo matching the photo requirements, invitation letter for Business if applicable, travel itinerary, hotel bookings or place of stay.
  • Processing time: typically 2–3 working days; in peak periods it may take up to 5 working days. Approval arrives electronically via the portal or email; you should print the e-Visa before travel.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee (online): Tourist USD 50; East Africa Tourist Visa USD 100; Business USD 100. Local currency equivalents (UGX) are displayed on the portal at payment time (approximately 185,000 UGX for USD 50 and about 370,000 UGX for USD 100, depending on the day’s rate).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for online Uganda e-Visas.
  • Total cost estimate: USD 50–100 depending on visa type. Standard processing time: 2–3 working days; Express/priority option: not advertised on the official portal.
  • Note: Always verify current fees on the official portal before applying, as rates can change.

Tips for China travelers

  • Plan ahead: apply at least 7–14 days before your travel date; during peak travel periods allow extra time.
  • Common rejection reasons for China applicants: incomplete documents or inconsistent personal/travel details, passport validity less than 6 months, photos not meeting requirements, failure to provide necessary business invitation letters or hotel bookings, mismatched travel dates.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Uganda online e-Visa, applications are submitted via the official portal only; avoid third-party agents charging extra; there is no separate embassy submission for the e-Visa.
  • Travel advisories: Check your government’s travel advisories and Uganda’s entry requirements; stay updated for any health or vaccination requirements (Yellow fever certificate may be requested based on origin and routing).
  • Extensions: If you need to extend your stay, apply with Uganda Immigration (online or at least 7 days before expiry) through the DGIC; extensions are granted at immigration’s discretion and may require additional fees; total extended stay normally not exceeding 90 days per visit for tourist stays.
