Romania Visa for China Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Chinese citizens need a Schengen (Type C) visa to enter Romania, which became a full Schengen member with land border checks lifted in January 2025; applications go through VFS Global in China, cost EUR 80, and take about 15 calendar days to process.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • Two recent biometric passport photos, 35x35mm, white background
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the Schengen area for the full trip
  • Proof of accommodation for the full stay
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3-6 months
  • Employment letter or business registration, plus approved leave if employed
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured at the VFS Global center

Visa types

  • Schengen Visa Type C, single entry - valid for the planned trip, up to 90 days, fee EUR 80
  • Schengen Visa Type C, multiple entry - for applicants with prior Schengen travel history, can be issued for 1-5 years, same EUR 80 fee
  • National (Type D) visa - for stays over 90 days, such as study or long-term work, requiring additional documentation beyond the tourist application

How to apply

  • Step 1: Book an appointment at the VFS Global Romania visa application center in China
  • Step 2: Complete the online application form and print it with the appointment confirmation
  • Step 3: Attend the appointment with passport, photos, insurance, accommodation and flight proof, and financial documents; biometrics captured
  • Step 4: Pay the EUR 80 visa fee plus the VFS service fee (approximately RMB 150-200)
  • Step 5: Track the application online and collect the passport with the visa sticker, or arrange courier return
  • Interview: not standard for complete, straightforward applications

Tips for China travelers

  • Since Romania completed full Schengen integration (land borders) in January 2025, a Schengen visa now grants seamless entry by air, sea, and land - no separate Romanian-only visa remains
  • Apply through the Romanian VFS center if Romania is your main destination or first point of entry on a multi-country trip
  • Common rejection reasons for Chinese applicants include inconsistent itineraries and insufficient proof of funds relative to the trip length
  • Confirm your travel insurance explicitly covers the Schengen area at the EUR 30,000 minimum
  • Extensions inside Romania beyond 90 days within a 180-day window are only granted for exceptional circumstances through the Romanian Immigration Inspectorate
