Chinese citizens can enter Qatar visa-free for tourism under Qatar's visa waiver programme, with entry formalities completed at Hamad International Airport and no advance application required for stays up to 30 days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No advance visa application required - entry permission is granted at Hamad International Airport for eligible nationalities including China
  • Proof of onward or return travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory
  • Biometrics: facial photo and in some cases fingerprint capture at the immigration e-gate or counter
  • Sufficient funds for the stay, which may be checked at the discretion of the immigration officer

  • Visitor entry permit - granted free on arrival, valid for a stay of 30 days, extendable once for a further 30 days
  • Business entry - same free entry process, supported by a letter of invitation from the Qatar-based host company for immigration purposes

  • Step 1: Present your passport at the e-gate or immigration counter on arrival - most Chinese travelers can use the automated e-gates if pre-registered or the manned counters otherwise
  • Step 2: Immigration verifies passport validity, return ticket, and accommodation details
  • Step 3: Receive an entry stamp valid for 30 days - no fee is charged
  • Queue tips: e-gates significantly reduce wait times; manned counters can take 20-40 minutes during peak arrival periods, especially late evening when multiple long-haul flights land together

  • No visa fee is charged for the initial 30-day stay
  • Processing time: immediate, granted at the airport on arrival
  • Extension fee: a modest fee applies for the one-time 30-day extension, payable through the Ministry of Interior's Metrash2 app or service center
  • No express/priority option is needed since initial entry is already immediate

Tips for China travelers

  • Carry a printed or digital hotel confirmation, since immigration officers occasionally ask to see it even though no formal visa application is required
  • Dress and conduct expectations in Qatar are more conservative than in mainland China - review local customs before arrival, particularly for airport and public behavior
  • Business travelers should still carry an invitation letter even though no visa fee applies, as immigration may ask about the purpose of a business trip
  • Qatar's waiver is specifically for ordinary passport holders; official or diplomatic passport holders should check separate arrangements
