Norway Visa for China Citizens 2026

Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa for Norway, applied for through VFS Global, with a fee of EUR 90 and standard processing of about 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • Two recent passport-size photos (35mm x 45mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months)
  • Travel/medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the entire Schengen area
  • Proof of accommodation and a detailed day-by-day travel itinerary
  • Proof of financial means (bank statements for the last 3-6 months)
  • Proof of employment or enrollment (employment letter, business registration, or student enrollment certificate)
  • Biometrics (10-fingerprint scan and digital photo) collected in person at the VFS Global visa application center

Visa types

  • Short-stay Tourist/Visit Visa (Type C): single, double, or multiple entry, valid for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period, fee EUR 90
  • Business Visa (Type C): same validity rules as tourist, requires a business invitation letter from the Norwegian host company
  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A): required only for certain nationalities transiting without entering the Schengen area, not typically required for Chinese passport holders

How to apply

  • Book an appointment and submit your application at the VFS Global visa application center representing Norway in your city
  • Checklist: application form, passport, photos, insurance certificate, bank statements, invitation/hotel booking, flight reservation, employment proof
  • Pay the visa fee plus the VFS service fee (typically an additional CNY 150-250) at the center
  • Biometrics and an in-person document check are completed at the same appointment
  • Standard processing time is up to 15 calendar days from the appointment date, extendable to 30-45 days during peak season or for complex cases

  • Some VFS centers offer a premium lounge service for faster document submission, but this does not guarantee faster visa decision times

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 weeks before travel, and no earlier than 6 months before the trip start date
  • Common rejection reasons for Chinese applicants include insufficient proof of funds and inconsistent employment or travel history documentation
  • If visiting multiple Schengen countries, apply at the consulate of the country where you will spend the most days, or your first point of entry if time is evenly split
  • Keep your itinerary, accommodation bookings, and financial documents mutually consistent, since discrepancies are closely scrutinized
  • Extensions within the Schengen area are rarely granted; plan your complete itinerary before applying rather than relying on an in-country extension
