Nigeria Visa for China Citizens 2026

Chinese citizens can apply for a Nigeria e-Visa (Tourist or Business) online via https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/; processing typically 2–5 working days with optional express service; fees start at USD 100.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of intended entry and have at least 2 blank pages.
  • Specific forms: Complete the Nigeria e-Visa online application on the official portal at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/. There are no separate DS-160/VAF forms for Nigeria e-Visa; you will upload documents within the online form.
  • Financial proof: There is no published fixed minimum bank balance requirement for Nigeria e-Visa. You may be asked to show evidence of funds if requested by immigration officials. As a guideline, have access to funds to cover your stay (for example around 1,000 USD for a two to three week visit).
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Provide evidence of accommodation details (hotel booking or invitation letter from host) and proof of a return or onward flight.
  • Photo specification: Upload a recent passport-style photo (front view) with a white background. Photo size 35x45 mm (or 600x600 px if uploading a digital image). File format JPEG or PNG; minimum resolution 600x600 px; max file size about 2 MB.
  • Biometrics: Yes. Nigeria typically collects biometric data as part of the entry process; you may be required to provide biometrics at a Nigerian Immigration Service center or at the port of entry upon arrival.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for the e-Visa, but recommended to have travel health insurance for medical cover during your stay.

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa — Official name: Tourist e-Visa. Validity: 90 days from date of issue. Maximum stay per visit: 30 days. Entries: Single entry. Approx fee: USD 100 (NGN equivalent around 85,000–90,000 depending on current exchange rate).
  • Business e-Visa — Official name: Business e-Visa. Validity: 90 days from date of issue. Maximum stay per visit: 30 days. Entries: Multiple entries. Approx fee: USD 200 (NGN equivalent around 170,000–180,000 depending on exchange rate).
  • Student Visa / Work Visa: Not available via the Nigeria e-Visa platform as of now. These categories require applying through the Nigerian Embassy/Consulate separately or may have different entry requirements. If you need a Student or Work visa, contact the Nigeria High Commission or Embassy for the latest guidance.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online through the official portal: https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/
  • Step 1: Create an account or log in on the e-Visa portal.
  • Step 2: Complete the online application form with personal details, passport data, travel plans and stay details.
  • Step 3: Upload required documents: scanned passport bio page, recent passport photo, hotel booking or invitation letter, return flight itinerary, and any supporting documents (if applicable).
  • Step 4: Pay the e-Visa fee online using a credit or debit card (USD or NGN as offered by the portal).
  • Step 5: After payment, you will receive an online confirmation. The e-Visa approval letter will be sent by email as a PDF with a QR code. Print it and bring it on departure.
  • Biometric: Nigeria typically does not require pre-travel biometrics for e-Visa; biometric data will be captured on arrival at the port of entry or at NIS biometric enrollment centers if requested.
  • Where to submit biometrics: If required before travel, biometrics can be captured at a Nigeria Immigration Service office or at the port of entry on arrival.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee (local currency and approximate USD): Tourist e-Visa: USD 100 (~NGN 85,000–90,000, subject to exchange rate). Business e-Visa: USD 200 (~NGN 170,000–180,000).
  • Service/VFS fee: Not applicable for the official e-Visa portal; no separate VFS/BLS handling for e-Visa.
  • Total cost estimate: For a standard Tourist e-Visa, about USD 100; for Business e-Visa, about USD 200. If you need express processing, add an express fee (e.g., USD 30) where offered by the portal.
  • Standard processing time: 2–5 working days. Express/priority processing: 24 hours (where offered) for an additional fee.
  • Express option and cost: Express option typically USD 30 extra; fee varies based on service level chosen on the portal.

Tips for China travelers

  • When to apply: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date to account for processing and any potential delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for Chinese applicants: Incomplete application or missing documents; passport data mismatch; travel dates inconsistent with the return ticket; insufficient funds or lack of accommodation proof; poor-quality scanned documents; conflicting information across uploaded files; failure to meet the 6-month validity/blank pages requirement.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: Nigeria e-Visa is online, end-to-end via the official portal. There is no VFS/BLS step for e-Visa; for non-e-Visa visas or if requested by a consulate, follow the Nigerian embassy's instructions (portal vs in-person) per their guidance.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the Nigerian government’s travel advisory and the Nigerian Immigration Service updates. Also review advisories from your own government (for China) and ensure your passport is valid and the visa matches your travel dates.
  • Extension options inside Nigeria: If you need to extend your stay beyond the approved period, you must apply for an extension with the Nigeria Immigration Service before your visa expires at a NIS office; extensions and availability depend on NIS approval and may incur additional fees.
