What you need

  • Passport validity: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of entry and have at least 1 blank page.
  • Online application form: fill and submit the official online eVisa application at https://evisa.gov.mz/; no separate paper form is required.
  • Financial proof: provide evidence of funds to cover your stay (e.g., bank statements for the last 3 months) if requested; not always mandatory but recommended.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: hotel bookings or an invitation letter from a Mozambican host, plus a return or onward flight ticket.
  • Photo specification: upload a recent color passport-style photo (white background); file format JPG/JPEG; recommended size around 3.5x4.5 cm (35x45 mm) or as specified in the portal; max file size typically 2 MB.
  • Biometrics: no in-person biometric appointment is required for the online eVisa; the application uses the uploaded photo instead.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory, but strongly recommended for your trip.

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (Visto de turismo): Official name Visto de turismo; validity up to 90 days from issue date; maximum stay up to 30 days per entry; single entry; approximate fee USD 60.
  • Business visa (Visto de negócios): Official name Visto de negócios; validity up to 90 days from issue date; maximum stay up to 30 days per entry; single entry; approximate fee USD 70.
  • Student visa (Visto de estudante): Official name Visto de estudante; validity up to 12 months; maximum stay per entry up to 6 months (extensions may be possible through immigration); multiple entry options may be available depending on invitation; approximate fee USD 75.
  • Work visa (Visto de trabalho): Official name Visto de trabalho; validity up to 12 months (extensions possible through Mozambican authorities); stay typically up to 12 months per entry; multiple-entry options may be possible; approximate fee USD 100.
  • Transit visa (Visto de trânsito): Official name Visto de trânsito; validity short (often up to 7 days); single entry; approximate fee USD 40. (Note: Transit visas are less commonly required if entering Mozambique via eVisa route; check current portal requirements.)

Application process

  • How to apply online (e-Visa): visit https://evisa.gov.mz/; create an account, complete the applicant details, and upload the required documents (passport bio page, passport photo, travel itinerary or invitation/hotel letter); pay the eVisa fee online (USD); submit the application; you will receive a confirmation and the decision by email.
  • Processing time for e-Visa: typically 3–5 working days; you will receive the approved eVisa by email and/or via your portal account; print a copy of the approval to present on arrival.
  • What arrives with approval: the eVisa is electronically linked to your passport number; no stamp is required in advance—border control will verify digitally at entry.
  • How to enter with the eVisa: carry a printed copy of the eVisa approval and your passport; present both to border officers on arrival in Mozambique.

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa fee (USD): starting from USD 60 depending on visa type; payment is online during application; Mozambican Metical is not typically used for the eVisa payment.
