Chinese citizens must obtain a Mexican visa in advance, typically applying at the Mexican Embassy or consulate in China with an in-person biometric appointment, before traveling for tourism, business, or other purposes.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Completed visa application form (submitted online, then printed for the appointment)
  • One recent passport-size photo
  • Proof of economic solvency (bank statements for the last 3 months, or equivalent)
  • Proof of employment or business ownership
  • Travel itinerary including flight and hotel reservations
  • Proof of a valid US, Canadian, UK, Japanese, or Schengen visa/residency, if applicable (can support an expedited route)
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo captured at the consulate during the in-person appointment

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa (Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas): single or multiple entry, each stay up to 180 days, visa itself can be valid from 1 up to 10 years depending on consulate discretion
  • Business Visa: same visa category as tourist but for business meetings, requires invitation letter from a Mexican company
  • Student/Work Visa (Visitante con permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas, or Residente Temporal): requires separate sponsorship/enrollment documentation and is processed as a distinct visa type

How to apply

  • Complete the online application on the Mexican consulate's visa portal and schedule an in-person appointment
  • Attend the appointment at the Mexican Embassy or consulate in China (Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou) with all required documents
  • Provide biometrics (fingerprints, photo) at the appointment
  • Pay the visa fee at the consulate
  • Standard processing: the visa is often issued within a few days to 2 weeks after the appointment, sometimes same-day for straightforward cases

  • No third-party VFS/BLS fee, as applications go directly through the Mexican consulate
