What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Libya, and include at least 2 blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: Libya online e-visa application form available through the official portal at https://www.embassyoflibya.org/; DS-160 or VAF forms are not used for the Libyan e-visa.
  • Financial proof: Recent bank statements for the last 3 months showing funds sufficient for your stay; recommended minimum financial proof of around USD 1,000 equivalent per traveler for a 30-day visit.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of hotel reservation or an invitation letter from a host in Libya; return or onward flight ticket.
  • Photo spec: A recent color passport photo (2x2 inches / 51x51 mm) with a white background; file in JPEG format; maximum size about 300 KB.
  • Biometrics: e-Visa applications do not require separate biometric enrollment; border biometrics may be collected on arrival if requested by border authorities.

  • Express/priority options: Some cases may offer expedited processing in 2–3 days for an additional fee (check at application); exact amounts vary by payment gateway and service level.

Tips for China travelers

  • Start the application at least 2–3 weeks before travel to account for potential delays or document rechecks.
  • Common rejection reasons for Chinese applicants: missing or mismatched name transliteration (as per passport), incomplete documents, passport validity less than 6 months, insufficient financial proof, or lack of hotel booking/invitation letter; ensure consistency across all documents.
  • e-visa vs direct embassy: The online e-visa via the official Libyan portal is the preferred route for eligible applicants; some cases may still require an embassy in-person review if the portal flags issues.
  • Travel advisories: Always check current Libyan travel advisories from your local Chinese authorities and the Libyan embassy; security conditions vary by region and may affect entry permissions.
  • Extension options: Extensions while in Libya are not commonly granted on the e-visa; if you need a longer stay, you typically must apply for a new visa from Libyan authorities before the current visa expires or seek an extension through the Libyan embassy.
