China citizens can apply for an Iraq e-Visa (Tourist or Business) online at https://evisa.gov.iq/; typical stay up to 30 days, processing 1–3 working days, fee around 60–75 USD.

What you need

  • Passport validity: must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry and have at least 2 blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: complete the online e-Visa application at https://evisa.gov.iq/; no DS-160 or VAF1A required.
  • Financial proof: not required as a mandatory document for the e-Visa application; ensure you have sufficient funds for your stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: hotel reservation is not strictly required but having confirmed accommodation is recommended; return flight ticket is not mandatory but advisable.
  • Photo spec: recent passport-style photo with white background; image size 600x600 pixels or 2x2 inches (51x51 mm); file format JPEG or PNG; maximum file size 2 MB.
  • Biometrics: not collected with the online e-Visa submission; border control may request biometrics on arrival if required by Iraqi authorities.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended to have coverage for medical emergencies.

  • Student e-Visa (Electronic) — Availability: Not currently offered through the Iraq e-Visa portal for China; if needed, apply via Iraqi Embassy/Consulate; fees and terms vary.
  • Work e-Visa (Electronic) — Availability: Not currently offered through the Iraq e-Visa portal for China; contact the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for guidance.

Application process

  • Steps:
  • 1. Create an account and log in.
  • 2. Choose visa type (Tourist or Business) and your nationality (China).
  • 3. Fill applicant details: personal data, passport information, intended dates of travel.
  • 4. Upload required documents: passport scan, recent photo, travel itinerary; additional documents if requested.
  • 5. Pay the visa fee online by card (USD equivalent shown on the portal).
  • 6. Submit the application and note your reference number.
  • 7. Processing time: typically 1–3 working days; allow up to 5–7 days during peak periods.
  • 8. Approval arrives in the portal; download the e-Visa PDF and print it to carry.
  • Fees (local currency and USD): Tourist 60 USD (~75,000 IQD); Business 75 USD (~90,000 IQD).
  • Processing times and delivery: Status updates appear in your e-Visa account; approval is delivered as a downloadable PDF from the portal.
  • How approval arrives: The e-Visa document is available for download from your account after approval; no physical sticker visa is issued.

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply well in advance: submit 7–21 days before travel to accommodate potential delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for China applicants specifically: passport validity less than 6 months, insufficient blank pages, photo not meeting specifications, mismatched transliteration of name, incomplete or inconsistent travel details, or uploading unclear documents.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: Use the official e-Visa portal (https://evisa.gov.iq/); third-party centers do not speed up processing for e-Visas.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the Iraqi MoFA site and the Chinese embassy for the latest entry rules and safety advisories before travel.
  • Extension options inside Iraq: If you need to extend, apply through Iraqi immigration authorities while in Iraq; extensions are not guaranteed and depend on purpose and immigration discretion.
