Visa on Arrival

Chinese citizens can get a Visa on Arrival for Indonesia, or pre-pay the same visa online as an e-VOA via molina.imigrasi.go.id; fee IDR 500,000 (about USD 32) for a 30-day single-entry stay, extendable once.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry with at least 1 blank page
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) for the stay
  • Sufficient funds to cover the visit (immigration officers rarely check this in practice, but carry evidence)
  • A digital photo is required if applying for the e-VOA in advance through the online portal
  • No prior appointment needed if paying for VOA physically on arrival at an eligible airport or seaport
  • Travel insurance is recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA) — single entry, 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days at an immigration office, tourism and business purposes (no paid work)
  • e-VOA — the same visa purchased online in advance via molina.imigrasi.go.id, generates a QR code scanned on arrival to skip the payment counter
  • B211A visit visa — for longer stays, business meetings, or family visits, applied for in advance through an Indonesian sponsor or agent, valid up to 60 days and extendable
  • KITAS (limited stay permit) — for long-term work or residence, arranged through a sponsor, not a short-stay option

Visa on arrival

  • Available at major international airports including Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta), Bali (Ngurah Rai), Surabaya, Medan, and at select seaports
  • On arrival: proceed to the VOA counter, pay the fee in IDR or USD cash (card payment not always reliable), receive a sticker/stamp
  • To skip the queue, pay in advance online via molina.imigrasi.go.id (e-VOA) and present the QR code at the immigration counter
  • Extension: visit a local immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) before the 30 days expire; extension costs the same IDR 500,000 fee and takes about a week to process, requiring biometrics

  • Extension fee: IDR 500,000 for an additional 30 days
  • Total maximum cost for a 60-day stay: approx. IDR 1,000,000 (approx. USD 64)
  • Processing on arrival: a few minutes at the airport counter
  • e-VOA online approval: typically within a few hours to 1 business day before travel
  • No separate express service needed since standard processing is already fast

Tips for China travelers

  • Pre-purchase the e-VOA online before departure to avoid long queues at busy airports like Bali during peak season
  • Carry both IDR cash and a backup card, as card readers at VOA counters are not always functional
  • Keep the departure/return ticket printed or easily accessible, as it is occasionally requested
  • If planning a stay beyond 60 days or for business meetings requiring a local sponsor, arrange a B211A visa before travel rather than relying on VOA extensions
  • Overstaying is fined at IDR 1,000,000 per day — track your 30-day limit carefully
