Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa for Iceland — applications are processed through Iceland's outsourced visa centre in China; fee EUR 80, standard processing 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from Schengen, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed Schengen visa application form
  • One recent passport-size photo, 35x45mm, white background
  • Travel insurance covering the full Schengen area with at least EUR 30,000 medical coverage
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Hotel bookings or detailed day-by-day itinerary (common for Iceland ring-road trips)
  • Bank statements for the last 3-6 months and an employment or business proof letter
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) captured at the application centre, reusable for 59 months

Visa types

  • Short-stay Tourist visa (Type C) — single or double entry, up to 90 days within any 180-day period, most common for Chinese leisure travellers
  • Business visa (Type C) — requires an invitation letter from an Icelandic host company
  • Transit visa (Type A) — for travellers connecting through Keflavik airport without entering the Schengen area
  • Multiple-entry visas are generally only granted to applicants with a prior clean Schengen travel record

How to apply

  • Book an appointment at Iceland's visa application centre in China (processed via the outsourced partner handling Icelandic visas)
  • Submit the completed form, photo, and all supporting documents in person
  • Give biometrics at the same appointment
  • Pay the Schengen visa fee (EUR 80 for adults) plus the service centre handling fee
  • Monitor application status online with the tracking number provided at submission
  • Collect the passport in person or via courier once a decision is made

  • No express service generally offered for Icelandic Schengen visas

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks ahead, especially for summer (June-August) travel when demand is highest
  • A detailed day-by-day itinerary is strongly recommended since Iceland trips are often self-drive and less structured than typical package tours
  • Common rejection reasons: vague itinerary, insufficient funds, weak proof of return ties to China
  • Rental car bookings and prepaid accommodation strengthen the application
  • Extensions are not available inside Iceland; plan your exact travel dates before applying
