France Visa for China Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa for France — apply via France-Visas and a visa application center; fee about EUR 90 (~CNY 700), processing around 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the planned departure date, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed France-Visas online application form, printed and signed
  • One recent photo, 35x45mm, light grey or white background, neutral expression
  • Travel/medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the whole Schengen area, including repatriation
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or a signed invitation/attestation d'accueil from a host)
  • Round-trip flight reservation (booking, not necessarily paid)
  • Financial proof: bank statements for the last 3 months, payslips, or employer leave letter; roughly CNY 800-1,000/day in funds is commonly expected
  • Biometrics (10-finger scan + photo) required in person at the visa application center for first-time applicants or if none on file from the last 5 years

Visa types

  • Short-stay Schengen visa (Type C), Tourist or Business: up to 90 days within any 180-day period, single or multiple entry, fee EUR 90 for adults
  • Short-stay Schengen visa, Family visit: same validity as above, requires attestation d'accueil from the French host
  • Student long-stay visa (VLS-TS): for stays over 90 days, requires Campus France/Etudes en France procedure first, fee EUR 99
  • Long-stay visitor or work visas: processed through the same VAC network, require additional supporting documents (titre de sejour follow-up in France)

How to apply

  • Create an account and fill in the application on France-Visas (france-visas.gouv.fr)
  • Book an appointment at a France visa application center (operated via TLScontact or VFS Global depending on the consular jurisdiction covering Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan or Shenyang)
  • Attend the appointment with the printed form, documents, and biometrics
  • Pay the visa fee (EUR 90) plus a service fee charged by the VAC, typically CNY 150-200
  • Track the application status online; passports are returned to the VAC or can be couriered

  • Visa fee: EUR 90 (~CNY 700) for adults; EUR 45 for children aged 6-12; free under 6
  • VAC service fee: approximately CNY 150-200, payable separately
  • Total typical cost: roughly CNY 850-950 including service fee
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days, extendable up to 30-45 days in complex cases or peak season
  • No official express option, though some VACs offer a "Premium" lounge service for an extra fee that does not speed up the embassy decision

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply 1-3 months ahead of travel, especially for summer (June-August) and Chinese New Year travel windows when VAC slots fill fast
  • Common rejection reasons: unclear or inconsistent trip purpose, insufficient financial proof, prior Schengen overstay, or a sponsor letter that doesn't match the applicant's actual itinerary
  • Applications must go through the appointed VAC (TLScontact/VFS) rather than the consulate directly for most applicants
  • Multiple-entry visas with longer validity (1-5 years) can be granted to applicants with a strong prior Schengen travel history
  • Overstaying even by a few days can result in future visa refusals, so plan the return date carefully against the granted stay
