Finland Visa for China Citizens 2026

Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa for Finland — apply through VFS Global on behalf of the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri); fee EUR 90, standard processing 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • One recent passport photo, 35x45mm, taken within the last 6 months
  • Travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage valid for the whole Schengen area and full trip duration
  • Hotel booking confirmation or invitation letter from a host in Finland
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3-6 months, payslips, and an employer leave-approval letter
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) collected in person at the VFS Global application centre if not given for a Schengen visa in the past 59 months

Visa types

  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A): for transit through a Finnish airport international zone only, fee EUR 80
  • Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): tourism, business, or family visits, valid for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period, single/double/multiple entry, fee EUR 90
  • Long-stay Residence Permit: for stays over 90 days (study, work, family reunification), applied for directly through the Finnish Immigration Service (migri.fi) rather than the short-stay Schengen route
  • Multiple-entry Schengen visas valid 1-5 years are issued to frequent travelers with a strong Schengen travel history

How to apply

  • Book an appointment at the VFS Global Finland visa application centre in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or other locations)
  • Complete the Schengen application form and gather all supporting documents, or start a residence permit application directly on migri.fi for long-stay purposes
  • Attend the appointment in person to submit documents and biometrics
  • Pay the visa fee and VFS service fee at the centre
  • Track your application status online via Migri's e-service; passports are typically returned via the centre or courier
  • Applicants with a strong Schengen visa history may be issued multiple-entry visas valid up to 5 years

Fees & processing time

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (about CNY 700); children 6-12: EUR 45; under 6: free
  • VFS Global service fee: approximately CNY 220-280 in addition to the visa fee
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from the appointment date
  • Can extend to 30 days, or up to 45 days in exceptional cases
  • No official express service; total realistic budget is around CNY 900-1,100 for a standard tourist application

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply 3-4 weeks before your intended travel date to allow for standard processing and possible delays
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient financial proof, unclear travel purpose, or weak ties to China
  • Keep flight and hotel bookings refundable until the visa is approved
  • If Finland isn't your main Schengen destination, apply through the country where you'll spend the most nights or first enter the Schengen area
  • Extensions inside Finland are rarely granted for tourist visas — plan your complete itinerary, including any Nordic side trips, before applying
