What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry

Visa types

  • Transit Visa: for short stopovers, lower fee, typically processed the same way as the tourist visa

Visa on arrival

  • Visa on arrival is issued at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa; availability at other entry points is limited, so fly into Addis Ababa where possible
  • After landing, proceed to the visa payment/immigration counter before passport control
  • Pay the fee in USD cash (exact change recommended) or by card where accepted
  • Pre-registering online through evisa.gov.et before your flight lets you pay in advance and often speeds up the airport process significantly
