Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa for Estonia — apply via VFS Global or the Estonian embassy's representative in China; fee EUR 90, standard processing 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • One recent passport photo, 35x45mm, white or light grey background
  • Travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage for the whole Schengen area and full trip duration
  • Hotel booking confirmation or invitation letter from a host in Estonia
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3-6 months and an employer leave-approval letter
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected in person if not provided for a Schengen visa in the past 59 months

Visa types

  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A): for transit through an Estonian airport international zone only, fee EUR 80
  • Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): tourism, business, or family visits, valid for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period, single/double/multiple entry, fee EUR 90
  • Long-stay National Visa (Type D) / Residence Permit: for stays over 90 days (study, work, long-term family reasons), processed separately through Estonian immigration channels, not via the standard short-stay route
  • Multiple-entry Schengen visas valid 1-5 years are available to applicants with a good Schengen travel history

How to apply

  • Book an appointment with the visa application centre representing Estonia in China (VFS Global or the relevant partner embassy, depending on your region)
  • Complete the Schengen application form and prepare all supporting documents
  • Attend the appointment to submit documents and biometrics in person
  • Pay the visa fee and any service fee charged by the application centre
  • Track your application status online and collect your passport once ready, or arrange courier return if available
  • First-time applicants may be asked for additional clarification or a short interview

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (about CNY 700); children 6-12: EUR 45; under 6: free
  • Visa centre service fee: typically CNY 220-280 in addition to the visa fee
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days from the appointment date
  • Can extend to 30 days, or up to 45 days in exceptional cases requiring further review
  • No official express service; total realistic budget is around CNY 900-1,100 for a standard tourist application

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply 3-4 weeks before your intended travel date to allow for standard processing and possible delays
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient financial proof, unclear travel purpose, or weak ties to China
  • Keep flight and hotel bookings refundable until the visa is approved
  • If Estonia isn't your main Schengen destination, apply through the country where you'll spend the most nights or first enter the Schengen area
  • Extensions inside Estonia are rarely granted for tourist visas — plan your full itinerary before applying
