Chinese citizens need an e-visa for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, applied for online or through the DRC embassy before travel — fee around USD 100-150, processing roughly 3-7 business days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • A digital passport-style photo for the online application
  • Scanned copy of your passport bio page
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Hotel booking or an invitation letter from a host/company in the DRC
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination (International Certificate of Vaccination) — mandatory for entry
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the length of stay
  • A valid email address to receive the e-visa approval document, which must be printed and carried

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid for a stay of up to 30 days, fee approximately USD 100-130
  • Business e-Visa: requires an invitation letter from a DRC-based company, similar validity and fee range, sometimes slightly higher
  • Multiple-entry Visa: available through the embassy for travelers needing several entries within a set period, fee around USD 150-200
  • Transit Visa: for short stopovers, lower fee and shorter validity, usually processed the same way as the tourist e-visa

How to apply online

  • Submit your application and documents through the DRC e-visa portal or the embassy's online request channel referenced on ambardc.org
  • Upload your passport scan, photo, and supporting documents (flight itinerary, hotel booking, yellow fever certificate)
  • Pay the visa fee online by card, or as instructed by the embassy if online payment isn't available
  • Receive your e-visa approval letter by email — print it and keep both a digital and paper copy for check-in and arrival
  • Present the printed approval, passport, and yellow fever certificate to immigration on arrival at Kinshasa's N'djili Airport or another entry point
  • If the online system is unavailable, apply directly through the DRC embassy/consulate in China with the same document set

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist/business e-visa fee: approximately USD 100-130, payable online or at the embassy
  • Multiple-entry visa fee: approximately USD 150-200
  • Standard processing time: 3-7 business days once all documents are submitted correctly
  • Rush processing (where available through the embassy) may reduce this to 1-3 business days for an additional fee
  • No separate VFS-style service fee if applying directly online or at the embassy, though third-party visa agents may charge CNY 200-500 extra

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply at least 2 weeks before departure to leave room for the yellow fever vaccination requirement and any document follow-up
  • Make sure your yellow fever certificate is issued at least 10 days before arrival — this is strictly checked on entry
  • Common rejection reasons include missing invitation letters for business travel or an unclear purpose of visit
  • Keep both digital and printed copies of your e-visa approval, as internet access on arrival may be limited
  • For complex itineraries or if the online portal is down, contact the DRC embassy in Beijing directly rather than relying solely on third-party visa agents
