Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa for Denmark — apply through VFS Global on behalf of the Danish mission; fee EUR 90, standard processing 15 calendar days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months past your planned departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed Schengen visa application form, signed
  • One passport photo, 35x45mm, taken within the last 6 months
  • Travel insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 medical coverage valid for the whole Schengen area and full trip duration
  • Hotel booking or Danish host's invitation letter plus the host's ID copy
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements covering the last 3-6 months, payslips, and an employer leave-approval letter
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) taken in person at the VFS Global centre

Visa types

  • Airport Transit Visa: for travelers transiting through a Danish airport without entering Schengen territory, fee EUR 80
  • Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): tourism, business, or visiting family, stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period, single/double/multiple entry, fee EUR 90
  • Long-stay/National Visa (Type D): for study, work, or family reunification exceeding 90 days, applied for directly through the Danish immigration service (nyidanmark.dk) rather than VFS
  • Multiple-entry visas valid 1-5 years are issued to frequent travelers with a clean Schengen visa history

How to apply

  • Register and book an appointment at the VFS Global Denmark visa application centre in China
  • Complete the online application form (and residence permit application on nyidanmark.dk for long-stay cases)
  • Submit documents and biometrics in person at your appointment
  • Pay the Schengen visa fee plus VFS service fee
  • Check application status online; some centres offer passport return by courier
  • Danish authorities may request additional documents or an interview for first-time or ambiguous applications

  • Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 (about CNY 700); children 6-12: EUR 45; under 6: free
  • VFS service fee: roughly CNY 220-280 additional
  • Standard processing: 15 calendar days from submission
  • Can extend to 30 days, or up to 45 days if extra documentation is needed
  • No official express service, though some VFS centres offer a premium appointment slot booking fee
  • Budget around CNY 900-1,100 total for a standard tourist application

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply 3-4 weeks ahead of travel; avoid applying more than 6 months before your trip, as this is outside the allowed window
  • Rejections are commonly linked to weak financial proof, unclear trip purpose, or inconsistent supporting documents
  • Keep hotel and flight bookings refundable until your visa is issued
  • If Denmark is a secondary stop on a multi-country Schengen trip, apply through the country where you'll spend the most nights
  • For long-stay purposes (study/work), apply directly via nyidanmark.dk rather than the short-stay Schengen route
