What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Azerbaijan, and you should have at least one blank visa page for entry/exit stamps.
  • Specific forms: No separate embassy forms for China citizens. Complete the online e-visa application at https://evisa.gov.az/; no DS-160 or equivalent is required.
  • Financial proof: There is no mandatory fixed bank statement or proof of funds required specifically for the e-visa application.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation is not mandatory, but having a hotel booking or invitation letter is helpful; a return/onward ticket is recommended.
  • Photo spec: Upload a passport-style color photograph meeting the portal’s requirements (white or light background, head and shoulders, clear image).
  • Biometrics: There is no pre-submission biometric appointment for the e-visa; biometric data may be collected at border controls if required.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for the visa itself, but highly recommended to have travel medical insurance for your trip.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to https://evisa.gov.az/ and create an account or log in.
  • Steps: 1) select Tourist or Business e-visa, 2) enter personal details and passport information, 3) upload passport scan and a recent photo, 4) specify travel plans and accommodation details if prompted, 5) pay the visa fee online with a credit/debit card, 6) submit and wait for confirmation.
  • Processing time: Standard processing is 3 working days. Express options may be available at a higher fee and with faster processing times (check the portal at the time of application).
  • Approval notice: The e-visa is issued by email as a PDF (or a downloadable document); print it or have it accessible on your mobile device to present at border control.
  • On entry: You can enter Azerbaijan through international airports and listed border checkpoints that accept e-visas; ensure your e-visa details match your passport exactly.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: USD 25 for Tourist and Business e-visas. Local currency equivalents (AZN) vary with exchange rates; you may see an approximate AZN value on the portal (roughly around AZN 42–43 based on typical mid-year rates).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for e-visa processing since processing is electronic through the official portal.
  • Total cost: USD 25 (plus any express/priority surcharge if you choose an expedited option).
  • Standard processing time: 3 working days.
  • Express/priority option: Yes, available on some applications with higher fees; exact costs and times shown during the online application.
  • Delivery/receiving the visa: The approval is issued digitally by email; no physical courier is required beyond printing the e-visa.

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply as early as possible: Start the e-visa application at least 7–10 days before your planned travel date to account for any delays; standard processing is 3 working days.
  • Common rejection reasons specific to China applicants: name transliteration mismatches between passport and application, passport photo not meeting requirements, passport data page not legible, incorrect visa type selected, inconsistent travel plans, or insufficient travel funds.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: For the e-visa, use the online portal evisa.gov.az directly; there is no separate VFS/BLS process for Azerbaijan e-visas. If you need a non-e-visa category (Student/Work), apply via the Azerbaijani Embassy/Consulate.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the latest travel advisories from your government and from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before departure, and verify any health or entry restrictions that may apply at the time of travel.
  • Extension options inside Azerbaijan: Extensions may be possible by applying to the State Migration Service before your visa expires; approvals are discretionary and may require supporting documents; typical extensions can extend total stay by up to 60 days, but confirm current rules with the Migration Service.
