Uruguay Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Zambian citizens need a visa to enter Uruguay — apply at the nearest Uruguayan consulate (Uruguay has no mission in Zambia, so applications usually go via Pretoria, South Africa) before travel; fee is about USD 30-40, processing 5-10 business days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed Uruguayan visa application form
  • 2 recent passport-size photos (4x4cm, white background)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement, recommended minimum around USD 2,000 or equivalent)
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Hotel booking or invitation letter from a host in Uruguay
  • Travel/health insurance covering the stay (strongly recommended, not always mandatory)
  • Biometrics: fingerprints may be taken at the consulate or on arrival; check with the handling mission

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (Visa de Turista) — single entry, stay up to 90 days, fee around USD 30-40
  • Business visa — single or multiple entry, requires an invitation letter from a Uruguayan company
  • Transit visa — for onward travel through Montevideo, short validity, lower fee

How to apply

  • Since Uruguay has no embassy in Zambia, submit your application to the Uruguayan Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, or another accredited mission covering Zambia, in person or by courier
  • Complete the form, attach all supporting documents, and pay the visa fee by the method the mission specifies
  • Applications submitted by mail should use a trackable courier and include a prepaid return envelope
  • Once approved, the visa is affixed as a sticker in your passport and returned to you or collected in person

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: approximately USD 30-40, payable in cash or bank transfer as instructed by the consulate
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee — applications are handled directly by the embassy
  • Standard processing time: 5-10 business days from receipt of a complete application
  • No official express service for mailed applications; add 1-2 weeks for courier transit time

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks ahead of travel to allow for courier transit and processing since there is no local consulate
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient proof of funds, missing return ticket, or an unclear travel itinerary
  • Keep copies of every document you submit in case the consulate requests clarification
  • Extensions of up to 90 additional days can be requested in Uruguay at the Dirección Nacional de Migración before the initial stay expires
