Visa Free

Zambian citizens can enter Uganda visa-free for tourism or business, for stays of up to 90 days, under a reciprocal regional arrangement.

Guide last updated September 28, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date, with at least one blank page
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended
  • No advance visa application, photos, or biometrics are required for visa-free entry

Visa types

  • Visa-free entry: covers tourism, family visits, and short business meetings, up to 90 days, no local employment permitted
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: a multi-entry option covering Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda, useful if visiting all three, applied for online before travel
  • Work Permit/Special Pass: required for any paid employment, arranged through Uganda's Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control before travel

Entry conditions

  • Zambian passport holders may stay visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business meetings
  • Paid work or employment is not permitted under visa-free status
  • On arrival at Entebbe International Airport or a land border, be ready to show your passport, yellow fever certificate, return ticket, and accommodation details
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require an application to the Uganda immigration authorities before the visa-free period expires
  • Overstaying can result in fines and complications for future entry

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • East Africa Tourist Visa (optional, if visiting multiple countries): approx. USD 100, processed online in 2-3 business days
  • Extension of stay (if needed): a modest fee payable at the Immigration Directorate in Kampala
  • Processing at the border for visa-free entry is immediate, typically a few minutes

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Carry your yellow fever certificate at all times, as it is checked strictly at both airports and land borders
  • If planning a regional trip covering Kenya or Rwanda too, consider the East Africa Tourist Visa instead of separate visa-free entries
  • Keep proof of accommodation and return travel handy even though no visa is required, since border officials commonly ask for it
  • For anything beyond tourism, confirm requirements with the Uganda High Commission in Lusaka before traveling
  • Extensions should be requested at least a week before your 90 days expire to avoid overstay penalties
