Thailand Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

Zambian citizens need a Thai e-Visa, applied for online at evisa.go.th before travel; a standard Tourist e-Visa costs around THB 2,000 (about USD 55) and takes roughly 3-15 business days to process.

Guide last updated September 28, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • Digital passport-style photo, 4x6 cm, plain white background, taken within the last 6 months
  • Proof of accommodation in Thailand (hotel booking confirmation)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Bank statement showing at least THB 20,000 (about USD 550) per person, or THB 40,000 per family
  • Biometrics (fingerprints) are collected on arrival at Thai immigration, not during the online application
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory for short tourist stays but is recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa (TR): single entry, valid for use within 90 days of issue, allows a stay of up to 60 days, extendable once for 30 days at a local immigration office; approx. THB 2,000
  • Non-Immigrant Visa 'B' (Business): for work or business assignments, requires a sponsoring Thai company; approx. THB 2,000-5,000 depending on entries
  • Non-Immigrant Visa 'ED' (Education): for students enrolled at a Thai institution
  • Non-Immigrant Visa 'O' (Other): covers family visits to a Thai spouse or retirement (for eligible ages)

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official Thailand e-Visa portal, evisa.go.th, at least 15 days before travel
  • Steps: create an account, complete the online form, upload your passport bio-page scan and photo, upload supporting documents (hotel booking, flight ticket, bank statement), pay the fee online, and submit
  • Fee: THB 2,000 for a single-entry Tourist e-Visa (approx. USD 55), paid by credit/debit card during the application
  • Processing time: typically 3-15 business days; apply early during peak travel seasons (Nov-Feb)
  • Approval arrives as a PDF e-Visa sent to your registered email; print it and carry it along with your passport when you travel, as immigration officers check it on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa fee: THB 2,000 (approx. USD 55), no separate service fee since applications go directly through the government portal
  • Total cost estimate: approx. USD 55-60 including incidental bank card charges
  • Standard processing time: 3-15 business days
  • There is no official expedited/priority option for the Thai e-Visa; applying early is the only way to avoid delays

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply at least 3 weeks before your trip, since there is no Thai embassy in Zambia and the e-Visa portal is your only route
  • Common rejection reasons: blurry passport scans, insufficient bank balance shown, or hotel bookings that don't cover the full stay
  • Since Thailand has no diplomatic mission in Lusaka, all communication is via the online portal or the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, if you need in-person help
  • Extensions of stay (30 days) can be done at any Immigration Bureau office in Thailand, e.g. in Bangkok, for a fee of THB 1,900
  • Keep both the digital and a printed copy of your e-Visa approval; some airlines require proof of visa before boarding
