Tanzania Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Zambian citizens can enter Tanzania visa-free for tourism or business, for stays of up to 90 days, under a reciprocal SADC arrangement.

Guide last updated September 28, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date, with at least one blank page
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay (cash, card statement, or sponsor letter)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is recommended, and required if arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever-endemic country
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended
  • No biometrics or advance forms are required for visa-free entry

Visa types

  • Visa-free entry: covers tourism, family visits, and short business meetings (no local employment or paid work) for up to 90 days
  • Business Visa: required if undertaking paid work, consultancy, or attending a contract-signing trip beyond simple meetings; approx. USD 50, single entry, valid 90 days
  • Work Permit / Residence Permit: required for any employment, arranged through the Tanzania Immigration Services Department and a local employer before travel

Entry conditions

  • Zambian passport holders may stay up to 90 days per 12-month period without a visa, for tourism or business meetings
  • No local employment or paid engagements are allowed under visa-free status
  • At the border or airport you must show your passport, return ticket, and proof of funds/accommodation to the immigration officer
  • Overstaying attracts fines and possible entry bans on future visits
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not normally granted; travelers needing longer stays should apply for the appropriate visa category before the 90 days expire

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • Business Visa (if required): approx. USD 50, processed same-day at the border or within 3-5 working days if applied for in advance at a Tanzanian mission
  • No VFS or third-party service fee applies since no visa is issued for tourism
  • Work/Residence Permit processing (if pursuing employment): typically 4-8 weeks through the employer

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Carry printed proof of accommodation and return tickets, as immigration officers at land borders (e.g. Nakonde/Tunduma) may ask for them even though no visa is required
  • Keep your yellow fever certificate with your passport, as it is checked more strictly at land borders than at Julius Nyerere International Airport
  • If traveling for anything beyond tourism or short meetings, confirm with the nearest Tanzanian High Commission whether a Business Visa is needed before you travel
  • Zanzibar has its own immigration checkpoint; the same 90-day visa-free rule applies but carry your passport separately from checked luggage when connecting
