Guide last updated September 28, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • Scanned passport bio-page
  • Digital passport-style photo
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory — Zambia is a listed endemic country
  • Travel insurance recommended
  • No in-person biometrics required for the e-Visa itself; photo/fingerprints may be captured on arrival

Visa types

  • Single-entry e-Visa: tourism/business, valid 30 days, fee approx. US$40
  • Multiple-entry e-Visa: valid up to 90 days from issue, fee approx. US$80
  • Residence permit: required for stays beyond 30-90 days, applied through the Direção de Migração in São Tomé

How to apply online

  • Apply through the official Sao Tome e-Visa portal at least 5 business days before travel
  • Create an account and complete the online form
  • Upload passport scan, photo, yellow fever certificate and accommodation proof
  • Pay the fee online by card (charged in USD)
  • Receive the approved e-Visa as a PDF by email to print and present on arrival at São Tomé International Airport

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa fee: US$40 (single entry, 30 days) or US$80 (multiple entry, 90 days)
  • No separate service fee through the official portal
  • Total cost: approximately US$40-80
  • Standard processing: 3-5 business days
  • No formal express option, so apply well ahead of travel

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Carry a physical copy of your yellow fever certificate — officers check it on arrival and it is the most common cause of denied boarding for Zambian travelers
  • Apply at least two weeks ahead since payment verification for African-issued cards sometimes needs manual review
  • There is no Sao Tomean mission in Zambia, so all support runs through the e-Visa portal's email helpdesk
  • Extensions are handled locally at the Direção de Migração in São Tomé before the e-Visa expires
