Maldives Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Zambian citizens receive a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival in the Maldives, provided they hold a valid passport, a confirmed hotel/resort booking, proof of onward travel, and sufficient funds — no advance application or fee is required.

Guide last updated September 27, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 1 month beyond the intended stay (Maldives immigration recommends at least 6 months' validity to avoid issues)
  • Confirmed accommodation booking (resort, guesthouse, or hotel) for the full stay
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds, generally USD 100 plus USD 50/day for the length of stay, or a paid-in-full booking
  • Completed Traveller Health Declaration (IMUGA) prior to arrival, via imuga.immigration.gov.mv
  • No biometrics required beyond a photo taken at immigration
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Free Tourist Visa on Arrival — single entry, valid for 30 days, granted to virtually all nationalities including Zambia at no cost
  • Extension — an additional 60 days can be requested locally at the Immigration Department in Male for a fee, bringing the maximum stay to 90 days

Visa on arrival

  • Complete the Traveller Health Declaration (IMUGA) online within 24 hours before arrival — this is mandatory and checked at immigration
  • Present passport, accommodation confirmation, and return ticket at the immigration counter on arrival at Velana International Airport or other entry points
  • No visa fee is collected; the 30-day permit is stamped free of charge
  • Processing at the airport is quick, generally under 15 minutes per traveler with documents ready
  • Resort transfers and check-in typically follow immediately after immigration clearance

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: none for the initial 30-day stay
  • Extension fee (if needed beyond 30 days): approx MVR 750-1,000 (~USD 50-65) at the Immigration Department in Male
  • Total cost for a standard visit: USD 0 beyond travel and accommodation costs
  • Processing time: immediate on arrival; extensions processed within 1-2 working days

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Complete the IMUGA Traveller Health Declaration before boarding the flight, as some airlines check for it at check-in
  • Carry a printed or digital copy of your resort/hotel booking and return ticket, since immigration may ask to see them
  • Budget for resort costs even though the visa itself is free — resorts require proof of a paid booking or sufficient funds
  • If extending your stay, apply at the Immigration Department in Male well before the initial 30 days expire
  • Confirm your resort island's transfer logistics in advance, as inter-island travel within the Maldives can take several hours
