Latvia Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Zambian citizens need a Schengen Type C visa to enter Latvia, applied for through the nearest Schengen consulate or visa application centre representing Latvia, since Latvia has no embassy in Zambia; the standard fee is 80 EUR with processing of about 15 business days.

Guide last updated September 27, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed Schengen visa application form
  • Two recent passport photos meeting Schengen specifications
  • Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation for the entire stay
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements for the last 3 months)
  • Travel medical insurance valid across the Schengen area, minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) collected in person at the visa application centre, required every 5 years

Visa types

  • Type C short-stay visa (single entry) - valid for the specific trip, up to 90 days within a 180-day period
  • Type C short-stay visa (multiple entry) - issued to established travelers with a good visa history, can be valid for 1-5 years
  • Type D national visa - for study, work, or long-stay purposes exceeding 90 days, arranged directly with Latvian authorities

How to apply

  • Since Latvia has no diplomatic presence in Zambia, applications are lodged through a Schengen partner state's consulate that represents Latvia locally, or through a designated Schengen visa application centre serving the region
  • Book an appointment, then submit the application form, photos, passport, and supporting documents in person
  • Attend the biometrics appointment if fingerprints are not already on file from a Schengen visa within the past 5 years
  • A decision is communicated by the handling consulate; approved visas are stamped or affixed as a sticker in the passport
  • Standard processing is 15 calendar days from the appointment, though this can extend to 30-45 days if extra document checks are needed

Fees & processing time

  • Standard Schengen visa fee: 80 EUR
  • Visa application centre service fee (if applicable): an additional 25-35 EUR
  • Total estimated cost: 100-130 EUR (roughly 110-140 USD)
  • Standard processing: 15 calendar days
  • Expedited processing (where offered by the handling centre) can reduce this to about 5-7 days for a higher fee

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before travel given the extra time needed to reach a representing consulate and account for possible delays
  • Common rejection reasons include insufficient proof of funds, an unclear purpose of travel, or weak ties to Zambia (no stable job, property, or family shown)
  • Book the earliest available appointment slot, as demand at representing consulates covering multiple countries can be high
  • A visa granted by Latvia (or any Schengen state) permits travel throughout the Schengen area for the visa's validity
  • Extensions are rarely granted inside Schengen; plan the visa validity and itinerary to cover the full trip in advance
