e-Visa / eTA

Zambian citizens can apply for Kazakhstan's e-Visa online at vmp.gov.kz; the single-entry tourist e-visa costs around 40-80 USD depending on category and is typically processed within 3-5 business days.

Guide last updated September 27, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry
  • A digital passport-style photo (uploaded during the online application)
  • Scanned copy of the passport bio page
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Return/onward flight ticket
  • Bank statement or proof of funds for the stay
  • Travel health/medical insurance covering Kazakhstan is recommended
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa itself, though fingerprints may be taken on arrival at the border

Visa types

  • e-Visa - single entry, business or tourist purpose, valid for use within 90 days of issue, stay up to 30 days
  • Ordinary (sticker) visa - available through the embassy for longer stays, work, or study, multiple-entry options up to 1 year
  • Transit visa - for onward travel through Kazakhstan, valid up to 5 days

How to apply online

  • Create an account at vmp.gov.kz (Kazakhstan's e-visa portal)
  • Complete the online application form with passport and trip details
  • Upload the passport scan and a digital photo
  • Pay the e-visa fee online by card
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF, which should be printed and carried alongside the passport
  • Processing is usually 3-5 business days; apply at least 10 days before travel to allow for any request for extra documents

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa fee: approximately 40 USD for tourist, up to 80 USD for business category
  • No separate service fee when applying directly on the government portal
  • Standard processing: 3-5 business days
  • Urgent/expedited processing (where offered) can reduce this to 1-2 business days for an additional fee
  • Total estimated cost: 40-90 USD depending on category and processing speed

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply online well ahead of travel since occasional system delays can push processing beyond the stated window
  • Common rejection reasons include a blurry passport scan, mismatched names between the ticket and passport, or an accommodation booking that doesn't cover the full stay
  • Print the approved e-visa and carry it with the passport; border officers may ask to see the paper copy
  • Kazakhstan's climate varies widely by season and region, so check entry requirements for any connecting flights through third countries
  • The e-visa cannot generally be extended from inside Kazakhstan; a new application or embassy visa is needed for a longer stay
