Ireland Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Zambian citizens need a visa to enter Ireland, applied for in advance through the Irish online visa system and submitted at an approved visa application centre.

Guide last updated September 27, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of the intended stay, with at least one blank page
  • Completed online visa application form (via AVATS, the Irish visa application system) with the summary sheet printed and signed
  • Two recent passport photos meeting Irish visa specifications
  • Proof of purpose of travel (invitation letter, conference registration, or tourist itinerary)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds (bank statements for the last 6 months)
  • Proof of accommodation for the full stay
  • Return flight booking
  • Travel/medical insurance covering the trip
  • Biometrics are not currently required for Irish visa applications, but supporting documents are checked closely

Visa types

  • Short-stay 'C' visa: tourism, business, or family visits up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, fee EUR 60 (single entry) or EUR 100 (multiple entry)
  • Long-stay 'D' visa: for study, work, or family reunification exceeding 90 days, requiring additional category-specific documents
  • Transit visa: required only if transiting through an Irish airport without going through immigration control in certain circumstances
  • Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, so a separate Irish visa is needed even if you hold a valid Schengen visa

How to apply

  • Complete the online application through the AVATS system on the Irish Immigration website
  • Print the application summary, gather all supporting documents, and pay the visa fee
  • Submit the application and documents at the nearest visa application centre (commonly handled via VFS Global for the region covering Zambia)
  • Track your application status online; the passport is returned with the visa decision by courier or in person
  • Interviews are uncommon but may be requested for complex or unclear applications

Fees & processing time

  • Short-stay single-entry visa fee: EUR 60 (about USD 65)
  • Short-stay multiple-entry visa fee: EUR 100 (about USD 108)
  • Visa centre service fee: typically EUR 20-30 additional
  • Total estimated cost: EUR 80-130 depending on visa type
  • Standard processing time: 8 weeks, though many straightforward applications are decided faster, in 2-4 weeks
  • No official fast-track/priority service is generally offered

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply well ahead of your travel date - Irish visa processing officially allows up to 8 weeks, so avoid booking non-refundable flights before approval
  • A common rejection reason is insufficient evidence of ties to Zambia or unclear travel purpose - include employment letters, proof of income, and a detailed itinerary
  • Since Ireland is outside the Schengen area, a Schengen visa does not cover travel to Ireland - a separate application is always required
  • Use the correct visa application centre for your region, as Zambia's applications are typically routed through a regional VFS Global office
  • If refused, review the refusal letter carefully, as it lists specific reasons, and address each one directly in any appeal or fresh application
