Iceland Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Zambian citizens need a Schengen-type visa to visit Iceland, applied for via the nearest Schengen-representing consulate; the fee is EUR 90, with standard processing of up to 15 calendar days.

Guide last updated November 1, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • Two recent biometric passport-size photos
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected at the application center
  • Schengen travel health insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage
  • Proof of accommodation and a detailed travel itinerary
  • Proof of sufficient funds and proof of employment or business ties in Zambia
  • Confirmed round-trip flight reservation

Visa types

  • Short-stay (Schengen) tourist visa: single, double, or multiple entry, valid for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, fee EUR 90
  • Business visa: same Schengen category, requires an invitation letter from the host organization in Iceland
  • Note: Iceland participates in the Schengen area through its EFTA/Schengen association, so the visa is a standard Schengen type C visa

How to apply

  • Iceland has no mission in Zambia, so applications are typically submitted through another Schengen country's embassy or consulate that represents Iceland for visa purposes in the region, or through VFS Global where available
  • Complete the Schengen application form and gather supporting documents
  • Attend an in-person appointment to submit documents and provide biometrics
  • Pay the visa fee (EUR 90) plus any service/handling fee at the representing mission
  • Collect the passport with the decision once processing is complete

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: EUR 90 (approximately USD 95-100)
  • Service fee if processed via VFS or a representing mission: typically EUR 20-30
  • Total estimated cost: EUR 110-120
  • Standard processing time: up to 15 calendar days, extendable to 30-45 days if additional checks are needed
  • Express processing is occasionally available through the representing mission for an extra fee

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply well in advance (4+ weeks) since the application is routed through a representing mission rather than a direct Icelandic consulate
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient travel insurance, weak proof of funds, unclear travel purpose or itinerary
  • Confirm in advance which Schengen mission represents Iceland for visa purposes in Zambia, as this can change
  • A granted visa generally allows travel across the wider Schengen area, not just Iceland, during its validity period
  • Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances through Icelandic immigration authorities (Útlendingastofnun)
