Hungary Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Zambian citizens need a Schengen visa to enter Hungary, applied for in advance through the Hungarian consulate or a designated visa application centre.

Guide last updated September 27, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • One recent passport photo (35x45mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months)
  • Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for the whole Schengen area
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months showing sufficient funds (roughly EUR 50-100 per day of stay)
  • Proof of employment or business registration in Zambia and a clear travel purpose
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) required for first-time Schengen applicants or if biometrics on file are older than 5 years

Visa types

  • Schengen Type C visa (short stay): tourism, business, or family visits up to 90 days within any 180-day period, single or multiple entry, fee EUR 80 for adults
  • Airport transit visa (Type A): required only for certain transit scenarios through some Schengen airports
  • National Type D visa: for stays over 90 days, such as study, work, or long-term family reunification, processed separately with additional documentation

How to apply

  • Book an appointment through the Hungarian consulate's visa application centre (commonly handled via a regional VFS Global office covering Zambia)
  • Complete the application form and gather all supporting documents
  • Attend the appointment to submit documents, pay the fee, and give biometrics
  • Track the application status online; the passport with visa sticker (or refusal letter) is returned by courier or collected in person
  • Interviews are uncommon but may be requested for unusual or unclear cases

Fees & processing time

  • Schengen visa fee: EUR 80 (about USD 85) for adults, EUR 40 for children aged 6-12
  • Visa centre service fee: typically EUR 25-35 additional
  • Total estimated cost: EUR 105-115 (roughly USD 110-125)
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days, extendable to 30-45 days if additional documentation is requested
  • No official expedited service for Schengen visas, though some centres offer a paid premium lounge option that does not guarantee a faster decision

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before your planned travel date to allow for processing delays and possible document requests
  • A common rejection reason is insufficient proof of ties to Zambia - include employment letters, payslips, or property documents
  • Since there is no Hungarian embassy resident in Zambia, confirm the current representing mission or visa centre jurisdiction before applying
  • Ensure your travel insurance certificate explicitly states EUR 30,000 coverage valid across the whole Schengen area, as generic policies are often rejected
  • If refused, request the specific reason in writing and address it directly before reapplying
