Canada Visa for Zambia Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Zambian citizens need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) for Canada, applied for online through IRCC; the fee is CAD 100 and standard processing commonly takes several weeks.

Guide last updated October 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of the intended stay in Canada, with at least one blank page
  • Completed online application through the IRCC portal (forms IMM 5257 and IMM 5645 where applicable)
  • Digital passport-style photo meeting Canadian specifications
  • Proof of accommodation and detailed travel itinerary
  • Return or onward flight ticket, or confirmed travel plans
  • Bank statements and proof of income/employment showing sufficient funds for the trip
  • Letter of invitation if visiting family or friends in Canada
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected in person at a Visa Application Centre, required for most first-time applicants from Zambia

Visa types

  • Visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa) - single or multiple entry, valid up to 10 years or until passport expiry (whichever is sooner), fee CAD 100
  • Study permit - for students, requires a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution, separate fee
  • Work permit - for employment, requires a job offer and often a Labour Market Impact Assessment, separate fee
  • Super Visa - for parents/grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, longer validity, fee CAD 100

How to apply

  • Create an account on the IRCC online portal and complete the Temporary Resident Visa application
  • Upload all required documents, including photos, financial proof and travel details
  • Pay the application fee (CAD 100) and, where applicable, the biometrics fee (CAD 85) online
  • Book a biometrics appointment at the designated Visa Application Centre serving the region
  • Processing times vary but commonly take several weeks; check IRCC's published processing time tool for the most current estimate for Zambia-based applicants

Fees & processing time

  • Visa application fee: CAD 100 (about USD 73)
  • Biometrics fee: CAD 85 (about USD 62), required for most first-time applicants
  • Total estimated cost: around CAD 185 (about USD 135)
  • Standard processing time: commonly several weeks, varying by IRCC's current workload
  • No separate express service for standard visitor visas

Tips for Zambia travelers

  • Apply well in advance (at least 2-3 months before travel) given variable processing times
  • A common refusal reason is insufficient proof of ties to Zambia or unclear intent to return, so include strong evidence of employment, property or family ties
  • Keep all financial documents consistent and clearly translated if not in English
  • Double-check the biometrics requirement, as missing this step delays the whole application
  • Extensions of stay inside Canada (visitor record) can be requested online before the authorized stay expires
