British citizens can enter Zambia visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days, with entry granted on a passport stamp at the border; the official e-visa portal is only needed if you want the multi-country KAZA UniVisa or a longer-stay visa.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • No visa required for stays up to 90 days as a UK national
  • Proof of onward or return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation and sufficient funds may be requested by the immigration officer
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from, or having transited through, a country with risk of yellow fever transmission
  • No specific photo or biometric enrolment needed for the visa-free stamp
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended, including cover for medical evacuation if visiting remote areas such as Victoria Falls or South Luangwa

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry: free, stamped on arrival, up to 90 days, covers tourism, family visits and short business meetings
  • KAZA UniVisa: an optional paid multi-entry visa (around USD 50) covering both Zambia and Zimbabwe for up to 30 days, useful if crossing between the two countries to see Victoria Falls from both sides, applied for on arrival or via evisa.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm
  • Work/residence permit: required separately for employment, arranged in advance through the Department of Immigration with a local sponsoring employer

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days permitted visa-free for tourism or business, without the need for any advance application
  • No paid work permitted on the visa-free entry
  • If you intend to cross into Zimbabwe and back to see Victoria Falls, consider the KAZA UniVisa instead of separate entries, as it is often more convenient and cost-effective

  • Carry your yellow fever certificate if relevant, as it may be checked on arrival

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • If your trip includes both Zambian and Zimbabwean sides of Victoria Falls, apply for the KAZA UniVisa to avoid paying for two separate entries
  • Bring a yellow fever certificate if you are arriving from or via an at-risk country, even though it is not always checked
  • Carry small amounts of US dollars in cash, as some fees (extensions, park entry) are quoted and collected in USD
  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is strongly advised for safari and remote area visits
