  • Extension stamp: issued by the Dirección Nacional de Migración (DNM) for a further 90 days within the same 365-day period, fee around UYU 2,200 (approx. USD 55)
  • Work/residency permit: required separately for any paid work or stays beyond 180 days in a year, applied for in person at DNM with a local sponsor or residency application

  • Keep a printed or digital copy of your return ticket and first night's accommodation booking in your hand luggage in case an immigration officer asks
  • Register your trip with the British Embassy in Montevideo if staying long-term, and take out comprehensive travel insurance given the lack of reciprocal healthcare
