Uganda Visa for United Kingdom Citizens 2026

UK citizens need an e-visa for Uganda - apply online at visas.immigration.go.ug; the single-entry tourist e-visa costs USD 50 and is typically processed within 3-5 working days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 1 blank page
  • Digital passport photo uploaded during the online application
  • Scan of passport bio page
  • Proof of onward/return travel
  • Accommodation details or invitation letter
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry into Uganda
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa itself; fingerprints are captured on arrival

Visa types

  • Single-entry tourist e-visa: USD 50, valid for a stay of up to 90 days
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: USD 100, covers multiple entries across Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda within 90 days, applied for through the same portal or via Kenya/Rwanda's equivalent system
  • Business e-visa: USD 50, requires a letter from the host company in Uganda
  • Multiple-entry visa: higher fee, for frequent travellers, requires justification and is less commonly granted to tourists

How to apply online

  • Apply via the official portal visas.immigration.go.ug
  • Register an account, complete the application with passport and trip details, upload your passport scan, photo, and yellow fever certificate
  • Pay online by card (USD 50 for the standard single-entry tourist e-visa)
  • Processing typically takes 3-5 working days; approval is emailed as a PDF to print and carry
  • Present the printed approval, passport, and yellow fever certificate on arrival at Entebbe International Airport or a land border

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry tourist e-visa: USD 50
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: USD 100 (better value for multi-country East Africa trips)
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee - payment is made directly on the government portal
  • Standard processing: 3-5 working days; allow up to 2 weeks in busy periods as no guaranteed express service exists

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Apply at least 2 weeks before travel to allow for processing delays beyond the standard 3-5 working days
  • Get your yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before departure, as it is checked on arrival and entry can be refused without it
  • If visiting Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda on one trip, the East Africa Tourist Visa is usually cheaper and more convenient than separate single-entry visas
  • Double-check all details entered on the e-visa form - mismatches with your passport are the most common cause of delay or rejection
  • Gorilla trekking permits are separate from the visa and should be booked well in advance through the Uganda Wildlife Authority, as they sell out months ahead
