What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
  • Proof of onward or return travel (essential given Tuvalu's very limited flight schedule)
  • Evidence of accommodation or a local sponsor
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay, if requested
  • No photo or application form required in advance
  • No biometrics beyond standard passport checks on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended given extremely limited medical facilities

  • Extension of stay: arranged with the Office of the Principal Immigration Officer in Funafuti, usually for a further 30 days

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Confirm your return flight well in advance - Tuvalu has only a handful of flights per week and schedules can change with little notice
  • There is no British High Commission in Tuvalu - the nearest UK consular support is via the High Commission in Suva, Fiji
  • Bring more cash than you think you need, as card facilities and ATMs are very limited on Funafuti
  • Medical evacuation insurance is strongly advised, as Tuvalu has minimal hospital facilities
  • If you need to extend beyond 30 days, visit the Immigration Office in Funafuti as soon as you arrive to understand current requirements
