What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Tajikistan, and you should have at least 2 blank pages available for stamps.
  • Specific forms: Use the Tajikistan e-visa online portal at https://www.evisa.tj/ to complete the application. You will upload a scanned data page of your passport and a recent passport-style photo; you will also provide travel details and accommodation information as prompted.
  • Financial proof: Financial proof is not mandatory for the e-visa itself, but applicants should have sufficient funds to cover their stay and return; airline tickets and hotel bookings are recommended but not required to accompany the e-visa.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: While not strictly required to obtain the e-visa, having confirmed hotel bookings and a return or onward ticket is advised.
  • Photo spec: Upload a recent color passport-style photo (JPG/JPEG) with a white or light background; recommended size is 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm) equivalent digital resolution; file size under 1 MB.
  • Biometrics: No in-person biometrics are required for the online e-visa; entry uses the information provided in the portal and the e-visa document.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory for the e-visa.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Apply well in advance: Aim to apply at least 7–14 days before your travel date to accommodate processing and potential delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for UK applicants: Passport data mismatch or expiry; photo quality not meeting requirements; missing or incorrectly completed fields; inconsistent travel plans or purpose; insufficient funds or lack of supporting hotel/flight details (where requested).
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For Tajikistan e-visa, use the official online portal; there is no VFS/BLS step for e-visas; a traditional sticker visa would require contacting the Tajikistan Embassy in the UK.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the UK government’s travel advisory for Tajikistan before travel and ensure your passport remains valid for the full duration of your trip plus an extra 6 months.
  • Extension options inside Tajikistan: Extensions may be possible via the Tajikistan Migration Service; not guaranteed and subject to official approval; apply before your e-visa expiry if you intend to extend your stay.
