Visa types

  • No short-stay visa required for UK tourists, business visitors, or family visits up to 90 days
  • National long-stay visa (D visa) - required for stays over 90 days, work, or study; applied for at the Swedish Embassy in London through the Swedish Migration Agency's online system
  • Work permit - required for employment, applied for in advance, often with employer sponsorship

  • No VFS/BLS fee applies to the standard short-stay route

  • Carry proof of accommodation and return travel, as post-Brexit UK passport checks at Swedish borders can be more thorough than before

  • If planning to work or study, apply through the Swedish Migration Agency's online portal well in advance, as these applications can take several months
